The Double-headed eagle was the symbol of the Byzantine Empire and was featured in all flags and insignia of the era. It is also symbolic in the Greek Orthodox Church and featured in the flag of the Patriarchate of Constantinople. It is also the symbol of AEK Athens, one of Greece's premier athletic clubs
