The Agamemnon Collection - Sterling Silver Pendant - Rosette Motif (32mm)
Rosette is a round stylized flower design used often in ancient sculptures in Greece and throughout the Mediterranean. These floral designs were often found at funeral sites. Today, they can sometimes be found around the sound holes on guitars. The Rosette Pendant makes a memorable gift for creative people like artists and musicians who are always looking for new inspiration.
In Greek mythology, Agamemnon means "very steadfast." The fearless leader led reluctant Greek forces into Troy. The bold designs and craftwork make this a thoughtful gift for someone with a flair for bravery and leadership.
The Agamemnon Collection features sterling silver jewelry replicas of the many gold repoussé motif discs discovered in the Shaft Grave III of Mycenae or Argos, Greece. It was believed that these gold discs served as decorative ornaments, worn as jewelry and were attached to the clothing or shrouds of the deceased. The Shaft Grave III is also known as the "Grave of Women" due to the discovery of three females and two infants within the grave.
This oxidized sterling silver pendant is a replica of one of the gold discs found in the Grave of Women featuring a rosette floral motif. The reverse side of the pendant is blank. The generous-sized sterling silver ring attached to the top (loop approx. 5mm) allows this beautiful charm to be strung on almost any chain or cord of your choice. Oxidized silver is produced naturally when oxygen reacts with silver. Precious sterling silver reacts to oxygen very easily, and and will have a darker appearance. Oxidized sterling silver jewelry has a nice contrast and vintage feel as the finish lacks shine and sparkle.

History
Agamemnon ("very resolute") is the son of King Atreus of Mycenae and Queen Aerope, the brother of Menelaus and the husband of Clytemnestra; different mythological versions make him the king either of Mycenae or of Argos. When Helen, the wife of Menelaus, was abducted by Paris of Troy, Agamemnon was the commander of the Achaeans in the ensuing Trojan War. Upon his return home, he was murdered by his wife Clytemnestra.
Repoussé motifs are created by hammering a design on the reverse side of the metal, forming a raised design on the front.
