Pythagorean Cup Replica, found in Samos

A Pythagorean cup (also known as a Pythagoras cup, a Greedy Cup, a Tantalus cup or as o kounenos tsi dikaiosynis) is a form of drinking cup. You can only fill it to a certain level until everything comes us from the bottom. More than just a practical joke cup, this demonstrates the physics behind the siphon. Itsinvention is credited to the great Greek mathematician and philosopher Pythagoras of Samos (570 BC - 495 BC), best known for the Pythagorean theorem.

This fine museum quality replica is a unique "one of a kind" ceramic reproduction made from clay originating from the same fields where the original was found to ensure the same "look and feel" as the actual piece. All paint decorations were also made replicating methods used by potters of the particular period. This is why this item is hard to distinguish from the original and requires the attached traditional lead stamp (shown as part of the description tag) that identifies it as a reproduction made by an authorized artist.
