Introduction:
It is impossible to learn to speak and understand a language without being familiar with its idioms. An idiom is the assigning of a new meaning to a group of words which already have their own significance. There are innumerable idioms used daily in all languages. Without a knowledge of their "new" meaning. one is at a loss. The basic dictionary will not give it.
There are diffrent kinds of idioms. Some are verbal «get up,», «work out» . Others are correlated with nouns, adjectives and adverbs. And there are those of a larger size - an entire clause to "fly off the handle," or "blow one's stack". These are Called turnures (from the French meaning "turns of phrase"). The book has a few of each kind.
The aim here is to attempt to make things easier in learning to communicate. It is hoped that those studying Modern Greek will be more at ease when trying to speak and understand a Native. Go for it!
